Psychotherapy for Mothers

Motherhood, unsweetened.

Once a child enters your life, you are changed. From hormonal shifts to cultural expectations, becoming a mother is a profound transformation of body and mind. This experience can be joyous, but also feel frustratingly untethered from your former self.

Counseling offers you a place to explore and process emotions, and also look back at the ways life has shaped you. Understanding your past and your present life lends insight into how you relate to your children. Examining your inner world, and having compassion for yourself, better equips you to choose your own path on the parenting journey.

I will advocate for your hopes and your dreams, recognizing that integrating dreams and parenting may sometimes seem incompatible. But this is where the specificity in maternal mental health counseling comes in. My counseling lens sees you as a whole person, with many gifts.

Maternal Winter is the season of parenting when the relentless presence of mind required for childrearing places the inner, reflective mind into a wintering state.

Reflection, a part of identity that gives joy and satisfaction to those who are more introverted, and to those who rely on creativity to solve problems — steps back into a state of hibernation, much like many forms of wildlife in wintertime.
